Let’s go over a few definitions together:

Justice is righteousness. Righteousness is freedom. Freedom is liberation.

Darkness is absence of light. Light allows vision. Darkness is blindness.

Hatred is hostility and avoidance. Love is attachment and devotion. Hatred and love cannot coexist. Avoidance and attachment are opposites.

Devotion is dedication to a cause. A cause necessitates action.

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Justice.

Freedom.

Light.

Love.

We have come far, but not yet far enough.

When there is still silence, we aren’t there yet.

When fear is stronger than courage, we aren’t there yet.

When there is still violence and brutality, we aren’t there yet.

When there is still hatred and oppression, we aren’t there yet.

When there is still injustice, we aren’t there yet.

We have come far, but not yet far enough.

I invite you to read a brief excerpt of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963 with me:

” I say to you today, my friends, though, even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up, live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.'”

Let your heart break for what once was. Let it break for what still is. Let your pain and another’s pain motivate you to action to fight for and stand in the gap for those who can’t do so for themselves.

For we can never be truly free until ALL are free.

“But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream”
